Il bestiario medievale: L'animale nei manoscritti miniati
Giulio Einaudi editore, 2021
Animals occupied a central place in medieval society. This book aims to visualize the animal presence in the Middle Ages through the representations present in the miniatures. The material, ornamental and iconographic richness of this form of artistic expression makes it the privileged witness of its time, as well as being its most emblematic art. The book is richly illustrated with over six hundred reproductions of miniatures painted throughout the Middle Ages in its broadest sense (from the 4th century to the beginning of the 16th). Many of them, still unpublished or very little known outside the circle of specialists, are thus brought to light and made known to a greater number of enthusiasts. The latter will find in the essays new keys to understanding the bestiary of medieval art, as well as the vision of the world that it expressed. - [Publisher]
