For the publication of the bestiary contained in the third book of the Acerba within a vast collection of bestiaries edited by myself (Bestiari tardoantichi e medievali, Bompiani 2018), I followed the edition of the ms. ital. 579 of the BNF [Bibliothèque Nationale de France, ital. 579], one of the most correct and complete that has been handed down to us, edited by Marco Albertazzi in 2002 (3rd ed. 2016). Unfortunately, this edition is vitiated by a considerable amount of errors, contradictions, misleading amendments and misprints, which led me to conduct a systematic revision. However, on that occasion I could not do more than merely report these corrections, and therefore I consider it appropriate – in this complementary essay – to illustrate at least the most important ones, useful as they are not only for the reconstruction of a reliable text of the Acerba but also for the study of its sources. - [Abstract]
